A fault on the 132 kV high-voltage transmission line linking Pakokku and Nyaungpin Gyi caused a power outage in towns across Pakokku District on the morning of December 15, according to reports.
The malfunction is believed to have occurred between Pakokku and Yesagyo townships in Magway Region. Officials said repairs could be carried out quickly if the area is secure.
“On December 15 at 6:55 a.m., electricity was cut due to a line fault on the 132 kV Nyaungpin Gyi (Monywa) – Buddha Gone (Pakokku) transmission line. Based on the fault level, it is estimated to have occurred between Yesagyo and Pakokku. It should not take too long as in previous cases. We will provide updates once the estimated restoration time is known,” a responsible official from the Pakokku Township Electricity Distribution Office wrote on Facebook.
A Pakokku resident said, “The power went out early this morning. At first, we thought it was a normal load reduction. We are just praying that it is not due to fighting causing damage to the power lines.”
During 2024, prolonged power outages occurred after transmission lines were damaged due to fighting. Earlier this year, power lines were also cut after intermediate cables were stolen, causing two transmission poles to collapse and resulting in long-term electricity disruptions.
