The Ministry of Education announced that the police are investigating the death of a student at No.1 Basic Education High School in Shwepyithar and that those involved in the fight will be investigated and taken action against the school disciplinary committee.

The death occurred at around 11 am on January 27, when a Grade 7 student attending No.1 Basic Education High School in Shwepyithar died.

In a statement of the information team of the National Defence and Security Council, the Ministry of Education said that the police from Shwepyithar police station are investigating the death of the student, Maung Thu Rein Moe, and that those involved in the fight will be investigated and taken action against the school disciplinary committee.

Similarly, the Ministry of Education announced that the Ministry of Education and parents of students will work together to prevent gang violence, raise awareness, and take effective action if it occurs.

Regarding the incident, an official from a social welfare association in Shwepyithar Township said, “It is true that a student died. When we went to help, we heard that the school took his body to the hospital by car.”

A video clip circulating on social media shows a Grade 7 student falling down after being punched by a student during a fight. Students who are watching over him said, “What happened? What happened? He only punched you.”

The Shwepyithar Information Page shared a video clip stating that the student died following a fight among a group of students. It acknowledged that the student had a heart condition but said it could not accept reports claiming he died while playing football. The page said it shared the video to clarify the facts and ensure the truth is not concealed.
