Phaung Gyi Hospital being extended to accommodate more COVID-19 patients

Phaung Gyi 500 bed Hospital prepared for treating of COVID-19  patients has now 495 COVID-19 patients, 67 patients in 90 Beds Waibargi Hospital, 57 patients in 60 Bed South Okkalapa General Hospital, 9 patients in Defence Services Liver Hospital, one in Yankin Children Hospital totaling 629  according to Ministry of Health and Sports.

According to September 10 mornings, there are 2009 confirmed cases, and 553 were discharged from hospitals. 

“Currently, there are about 40 hospitals in entire Myanmar giving treatment to COVID-19 patients of about 2009 patients. At the moment, Phaung Gyi Hospital has reached its limit of 500 patients and now we are preparing to extend Phaung Gyi Hospital with another 500 beds. Besides, we have changed the hospital discharge date to 24 days. Therefore, hundreds of patients were discharged from the hospital yesterday. Previously, we have set that those with two negative test results can discharge from the hospital. So, some patients had to stay at the hospital more than 70, 80 or 90 days. We are alos preparing another private hospital to treat COVID-19 patients if necessary. To sum up, we are handling the virus in Myanmar effectively till now,” said Dr. Knin Khnin Gyi, Director of Department of Central combating and eradication of contagious diseases.
