The government’s peace delegation has submitted a proposal to the Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) to hold the Joint Implementation Coordination Meeting (JICM) on October 30, said Hla Maung Shwe, an advisor to the government’s Peace Commission.

This proposal was submitted at an informal meeting between the delegates of the peace commission led by Secretary of the Peace Commission Lt-Gen Khin Zaw Oo (Retired) and the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS), in Chiang Mai of Thailand on the morning of October 18.

The Peace Commission invited the RCSS’s chair General Ywet Sit, who is also an acting leader of the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST), to attend the 4th anniversary of the NCA Signing. The preliminary coordination meeting for the JICM is scheduled to take place on October 25, Hla Maung Shwe said.

The Peace Commission also discussed with the RCSS about the situations being experienced by the RCSS.  During Chiang Mai tour, the Peace Commission’s meeting with the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) mainly focused on trust building.

The government and the EAOs have agreed to hold the 4th anniversary of the NCA Signing, on October 28.

On October 20 and 2, delegates from the EAOs will go to Nay Pyi Taw to make necessary preparations for the 4th anniversary of the NCA Signing, said Col Khun Okkar, Patron of Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLO).

The government and the EAOs are holding a series of informal meetings in order to resume official peace talks stalled for nearly one year.
