Peace Commission Chairman meets Chinese Asian Affairs Special Envoy

YANGON- Peace Commission’s Chairman Dr Tin Myo Win met with Chinese delegation yesterday, led by Sun Guoxiang, Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China at the National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) in Yangon, according to the NRPC’s announcement.

At the meeting, they discussed about the peace process in Myanmar, stability and regional development.

Similarly, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received Sun Guoxiang at the Parlour of Bayintnaung Villa in Nay Pyi Taw on January 22nd, announced the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services.

Both sides cordially discussed and exchanged views on China’s assistance and cooperation in Myanmar’s peace process, The Tatmadaw’s ongoing efforts for achieving eternal peace and Chinese support for efforts of the government and Tatmadaw.

Moreover, the announcement also reported that the Chinese strongly denounced the insurgent Arakan Army’s attack on police outposts in Rakhine State.

Present on the occasion were, Lt-Gen Than Tun Oo and Lt-Gen Soe Htut from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), senior military officers, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Hong Liang and Chinese military attaché Senior Colonel Xiong Shaowei.

The government’s delegation led by Khin Maung Tin, Deputy Minister of State Counsellor’s Office who is also the NRPC’s Vice-Chairman held an informal meeting with the representatives of Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) led by Maj-Gen Guan Maw in Kunming, China, on January 21st and both sides agreed to hold a formal meeting between government including military and KIO. Later, Sun Guoxiang arrived in Myanmar.

Chinese government is involved in the peace process in Myanmar and had assigned Sun Guoxiang to negotiate between Myanmar government and northern ethnic armed groups.

Moreover, China will provide cash assistances for the Myanmar peace process and had donated 10 vehicles last year for use in the tasks of Joint Monitoring Committee on Ceasefire.
