Package tour to Coco Island to begin in January

YANGON- In order to develop health, education and business sectors, a six-day long Yangon-Coco Island round trip packages will launch in January, according to the Yangon Region Government Committee.

The Coco Island, located 414 kilometers south of Yangon Region, comprise of a small group of islands in the northeastern Indian Ocean. It has two big islands with wide expanses of beaches.

A team led by Nilar Kyaw, Electricity, Industry and Transport Minister, Social Affairs Minister Naing Gan Lin, and Immigration and Human Resources Minister  Moe Moe Su Kyi from the Yangon Region Government Committee visited Coco Island in the morning of December 17th.

“Under the guidance of the Yangon Region Chief Minister, the Finance Minister and the Road and Transport Minister will be implementing the package tour from Yangon to Coco Island.  Coco Island is one of the 45 Townships in the Yangon Region. The program aims to carry out more regional development tasks on Coco Island together with the Yangon Regional development program,” said Moe Moe Su Kyi.

She also said that they did not purchase new vessels for the packages but will hire domestic ferries. Moreover, they were going to announce the statement concerning hiring ferries.

Myint Thaung, Planning and Finance Minister from Yangon Region Government Committee said at the Second Yangon Region’s Parliament Meeting held on June 18th that the MPs had rejected the regional government’s request for Ks 16 billion to construct a new police headquarters and regional court and to buy a ship to shuttle between Coco Island and Yangon Region. However, those budgets would be used in other infrastructures.
