Pabedan NLD chair dies after military torture

YANGON------Khin Maung Latt, a chairman of ruling National League for Democracy (NLD), in Pabedan Township, Yangon Region, died from military torture at night of March 6th, says Tun Kyi, one of the leading committee members of Former Political Prisoners Society who is also helping the family arrange the funeral.

Military [Tatmadaw] arrested Khin Maung Latt on Saturday night but the Pabedan Police Station informed his family about his death yesterday morning.

“Khin Maung Latt was tortured since the beginning of military arrest on Saturday night. On Sunday morning, the police officer from Pabedan Township informed his family that he fell down unconscious. But, he died at the Mingaladon Military Hospital,” said Tun Kyi.

Tun Kyi also said that Justice is needed for the death of over 50 protesters including Khin Maung Latt who were killed during military-coup crackdown.

58-year- old Khin Maung Latt is an Islam. His body was taken from Migaladon Military Hospital to Yayway Cemetery and then the family buried him[Khin Maung Latt] at the Yayway Cemetery in accordance with Islamic religion yesterday evening, according to NLD’s MP Si Thu Maung’s Facebook account.

Khin Maung Latt acted as the representative of Si Thu Maung who competed in the General Election -2020.

The military, together with the police, raided NLD's members’ houses including Khin Maung Latt in Pabedan Township, Yangon Region, on Saturday night and they seized NLD members’ belongings including hand phones, according to NLD’s MP Si Thu Maung’s Facebook.
