Myanmar had earned US$242.467 million from export of over 291,229 tons of various beans and pulses from October 1 to December 17 during the mini budget period of 2021-2022 fiscal year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

In the period, 275,752.333 tons of various beans and pulses worth US$229.955 million were exported via maritime trade route and 15,477.517 tons worth US$14.521 million via border trade route.

From October to September in the previous 2020-2021 fiscal, export value of beans and pulses amounted to over US$1,570 million, the ministry reported.

The Indian government signed a memorandum of understanding with Myanmar to import 250,000 tons of mung bean and 100,000 tons of pigeon pea through the private sector from 2021-2022 to 2025-2026.

In 2019-2020 financial year, Myanmar earned nearly US$1.2 billion from export of over 1.6 million tons of beans and pulses, the ministrys data showed.

Of various kinds of beans and pulses domestically grown, Myanmar mainly exports mung bean, pigeon pea and green gram.

Mung bean and pigeon pea mainly go to India and green gram to China and some European Union countries.

Myanmar has more than 11 million acres of plantations of 18 kinds of beans and pulses.
