The operating Myaungdaga and Kangyidaunk fertilizer factories will accept any proposal from private entrepreneurs to go into partnership, according to the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.

There are five fertilizer plants under Myanmar Petroleum Chemical Enterprise. Of them, No 4 Fertilizer Factory (Myaungdaga), No 5 Fertilizer Factory (Kangyidaunk) and No 1 Fertilizer Factory (Salay) are still operative producing 700 tons of fertilizers daily. The other two factories have stopped operation due to gas supply restrictions.

Those defunct factories are No 2 Fertilizer Factory (Kyunchaung) and No 3 Fertilizer Factory (Kyawswa). No 2 Fertilizer Factory (Kyunchaung) was built in 1968 by Pintsch Bamag Co Ltd of Germany. It produced about 207 tons of fertilizers a day firing gas from Kyaukkhwat, Ayadaw and Thagyitaung gas fields.

No.3 Fertilizer Factory (Kyawswa) was established in 1982 by UHDEGm DH Co Ltd of Germany. It produced about 600 tons of fertilizers a day using inland gas resources.

With the aging factories, required machinery and accessories are no longer produced in foreign countries.

The ministry offered to invite private partnership with the operating factories. Some private entrepreneurs made surveys but have not cooperate as profits are unlikely. The ministry therefore has planned to accept any further proposal, said Deputy Minister for Electricity and Energy Dr Tun Naing.
