Number of people fully vaccinated against COVID-19 reaches over 2 million in Myanmar

More than two million people have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in Myanmar till August 31, and those who need a second dose are still being vaccinated, according to the Ministry of Health.

The vaccine is being given to 36.9 million people over the age of 18 in Myanmar. As of August 31, a total of 2,104,934 people are fully vaccinated and 2,662,364 people have completed one dose of the vaccine, totaling 4767,298 people, according to the ministry.

A total of 2 million doses of Sinopharm (Beijing) vaccine purchased from China arrived at Yangon International Airport on the evening of August 28 and was received by a team led by the head of Department of Medical Services and Public Health for Yangon Region. It is being distributed to the regions and states from August 29, it said.

Currently, Myanmar received 2.5 million doses of Sinopharm vaccines donated by China, 2 million doses of Sinovac vaccines and 2 million doses of Sinopharm vaccines which are bought, for a total of 6.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

According to the ministry, 150,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines are being given daily to target groups.

Myanmar is start injecting COVID-19 vaccines since January 2021.
