No plan to close markets and shopping centers: Yangon CM

Yangon--There is no plan to close markets and shopping centers in Yangon due to COVID-19, said Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, at a ceremony to donate money, medicine and medical facilities for the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 in Yangon on 21 March.

“Due to Covid-19, there is the circulation of rumours over the shutdown of markets and shopping centers in Yangon. The region government has no plan to do so and has ordered to ban mass gatherings, events and festivals and close KTV, massage parlours,” he added.

“Around 700 romours are being circulated on the social media every day. The government is doing its best to ensure the best management and services in response to the current situation. On the one hand, the Union government formed the central committee for the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19, which is led by the State Counsellor. On the other hand, the Ministry of Health and Sports is releasing the real-time information,” he continued.

On 13 March, the President Office ordered to temporarily suspend mass gatherings, events and festivals and close schools, KTV, massage parlours nationwide until 30 April,” he added.

The government urged the public to abide by the instructions issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports.

There have been no confirmed cases in Myanmar yet.
