The ruling National League for Democracy will choose its candidates for the 2020 General Election based on three points including their performance during the current parliamentary term, said Dr. Myo Nyunt, Spokesperson of the NLD.

“The party has not fixed the fact that how many MPs will include in the 2020 General Election. We will choose them based on their performance, relevant executive committee’s appraisal and the people’s support during five-year term,” Dr. Myo Nyunt said.

At the party headquarters in Yangon on September 21 and 22, Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, Vice-Chair-2 of the NLD told media: “At the central committee’s meeting, the CEC members suggested that the party needed to choose the candidates who win the public support instead of the selection of candidates with diminishing personal images. The party always listens to the voices of party members at the bottom level. The CEC will carry out the final selection of candidates.”

A total of 1,152 candidates from the NLD participated in the 2015 General Election. The NLD topped the list of parties with the highest number of candidates.

The NLD leaders told media after the two-day meeting that the party shall try to win a landslide victory in the upcoming election like the 2015 General Election.
