NLD issue statement over three kidnapped MPs

YANGON-----The National League for Democracy issued a statement on 17 October for the release of three detained Members of Parliament as soon as possible.

     

It stated that on 14 Oct. at around 10am, that while campaigning for the election in Phaung khaung village, Taungup township, MP Daw Ni Ni Myint, state constituency 2 MP U Min Aung, and constituency 12 nominee for Ahmyothar Hluttaw, Daw Chit Chit Chaw were seized by an arned group, beat up and tied up at gunpoint and taken away.

     

The statement further said that Daw Ni Ni Myint and U Min Aung were elected MP's of Taungup township, Rakhine State by the local people, and Daw Chit Chit Chaw is the nominee for member of Hluttaw for the township constituency 12 at the general election to be held on 8 November.

     

It further said that the abduction of these three people is a hindrance to the peace process, and is intended to cause disturbance to the forthcoming elections, and an hindrance to the setting up of a democratic federal union.

     

It also pointed out that this is an act of  terrorism to be despised strongly.

     

Finally, the statement urged the people to not accept such bullying with the recourse of arms but to oppose it, and to stand by the people's representatives that have been taken captive.
