Nearly northern Rakhine State infected with COVID-19 virus

YANGON-The Ministry of Health and Sports announced that COVID-19 virus is now spreading to nearly all parts of northern Rakhine State.

Myanmar found a record-breaking of 100 new CPVID-19 infections in a single day in Rakhine State, yesterday morning, and most of them were from Rakhine State.

Some victims had close contact with the COVID-19 confirmed cases. Most victims are middle aged people but the youngest patient is a 2-month-old female infant from Mrauk-U Township.

Those COVID-19 confirmed patients are now receiving medical treatments at the Hospitals in Kyaukphyu, Minbyar, Mrauk-U,Ponnagyun, Myabon, Pauktaw,Maungtaw,Kyauktaw and Sittway Townships in Rakhine State and Waibargi Specialist Hospital in Yangon Region.

Dr Soe Win Paing, Assistant-Director of Special Disease Control Department from the Health Department in Sittway said that there were 105 COVID-19 confirmed cases in Sittway People’s Hospital and their health conditions were stable.

“We are convenient as there were enough of medical workers at the Sittway Hospital. Moreover, medical professionals who wanted to volunteer for fighting against COVID-19 arrived in Sittway Hospital,” said Dr Soe Win Paing.

Among the victims, some were medical workers, some had no overseas travel history and no close contact with the COVID-19 confirmed patient. A Total of 12 medical workers including doctors and nurses are being tested positive for COVID-19 virus, according to Dr Soe Win Paing.

After COVID-19 virus immediately spread in the Rakhine State, there was a lack of people in Sittway Township and some who had to go out had to wear facemasks, according to the local from Sittway Township.

The United Nations (UN) announced that some INGOs staff who worked at the rescue operations for IDPs in Rakhine State were infected with COVID-19 virus. But, the UN didn’t step back from their operations.

With the aim not to spread the virus, the Ministry of Health and Sports announced in the evening of August 25th that those who made travel from COVID-19 hotspots Townships in Rakhine State, they must be informed to the health department.

The Ministry of Health and Sports also announced that the locals are needed to remain in their residences [excluding those working in government departments, organizations, companies, factories and workshops]. Other instructions include: only one person from a household allowed to shop for essentials if necessary: two persons from a household allowed to go to a clinic if necessary: wearing of facemask whenever going out: only permitted vehicles transporting those who are serving their duty or returning will be allowed: while in a vehicle there should be only one driver and one passenger when shopping and one driver and two passengers when visiting the clinic. Action will be taken under the law against those who fail to follow the instructions.

A volunteer medical team including doctors and nurses arrived in Sittway Airport, Rakhine State, aiming to reinforce the state’s testing and treatment capability on August 25th.

A team includes three assistant doctors, a dental surgeon, a nurse from the Public Health Department and five senior nurses and 12 nurses.

 There had been over 60 public health inspectors from all over the country who volunteered to give their service to prevent and control COVID-19 in Sittway Township, Rakhine State.

Until this morning, Myanmar has reported 586 COVID-19 cases including six deaths and 341 recoveries.

Among them, there are 110 COVID-19 cases in Rakhine State from August 16th to 25th.
