KITSAPA- Nearly 200 displaced Mro ethnics living in Kone village, Northern Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State fled to Thittone Ngagwa Sone village as they were afraid of possible armed conflict.

A total of 29 households, comprising of 194 family members, abandoned their homes, farmlands and are now sheltering at the Thittone Ngagwa Sone village.

“No battles had occurred near our village but the military arrived at our village. We think that the fighting may occur soon. So, we abandoned our lands. If fights were to take place, we will face hardships procuring food, education and transportation access. Now, we have been in Thittone Ngagwa Sone village for about nine days and collectively stayed at old houses,” said Sein Daung from Kone village.

Currently, bamboos and solar panel batteries are required for the displaced villagers.

“There were 29 households that arrived in our village on February 1st. We need bamboos for construction of huts and solar panel baterries for them because our village do not have access to electricity. There are many things that are required. Kone village is far about 13 miles away from our village. The villagers fled to our village because they were worried about the fighting,” said Tun Shwe, administrator of Thittone Ngagwa Sone village.

The Red Cross Association reported that they supported mosquito nets, blankets, cloths, utensils and drinking water bottles to the displaced Kone villagers arriving in Thittone Ngagwa Sone village yesterday.
