Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, U Than Swe, will attend the Myanmar-related informal talks in Thailand.

“On the 19th of this month, the meeting of neighboring countries, including Myanmar and its neighboring nations, will be attended by Myanmar’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, U Than Swe. Officials from neighboring countries such as China, Laos, Thailand, Bangladesh, and India, including ministers, deputy ministers, and other officials, will also attend,” said Major General Zaw Min Tun, a spokesperson for the State Administration Council (SAC), regarding the two free dialogue meetings to be held in Thailand.

The discussions will primarily focus on border-related issues, border crossing incidents, and how to ensure border stability. The aim is to cooperate on addressing these matters, including the prevention of border incursions and conflicts, Major General Zaw Min Tun stated.

He also mentioned, “there’s an ongoing issue relating to Wa, and this is a separate matter. Myanmar and Thailand have established border committees at various levels. Discussions are regularly held monthly, such as through TBC and RBC. These matters will be managed through the routine meetings of the border committees.”

The informal meeting on Myanmar’s issues will be held on December 19 in Bangkok, Thailand, with participation from Bangladesh, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced this, and a similar meeting of ASEAN member countries will take place on December 20.
