Myanmar-Thai trade exceeds 1300 m USD in three months

Yangon--Till December of 2019-2020 fiscal year,  the total trade between Myanmar and Thailand reached over 1300 million US dollars, according to the Commerce Ministry. 

Myanmar’s exports amounted to nearly 767 million US dollars while Thailand’s imports exceeded 543 million US dollars. 

From April to September, 2018, Thai-Myanmar trade reached 2958.039 million US dollars—Myanmar’s exports of 1559.454 million US dollars and Thailand’s imports of 1398.585 million US dollars. 

In 2017-18 FY, Thai-Myanmar trade hit 5074.707 million US dollars— Myanmar’s exports of 2846.066 million US dollars and Thailand’s imports of 2228.641 million US dollars. 

In 2016-17 FY, Thai-Myanmar trade hit 4288.172 million US dollars— Myanmar’s exports of 2212.234 million US dollars and Thailand’s imports of 2085.938 million US dollars.

U Aung Soe, the permanent secretary of Ministry of Commerce said: “The National Export Strategy (NES) (2020-2025) is a change for cooperation between governmental organizations and private sectors for jobs and new opportunities. The global attention to Asia results in changes and challenges. The implementation of NES can help Myanmar in exploring the ways for inclusion in the value-added global supply chain.”

The NES(2020-2025) framework will create new opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises and local exporters.
