Myanmar sees 764 seasonal flu patients, no H1N1 reported in eastern Shan State

Of 764 patients suffering from flu across Myanmar, 575 are infected with A(H1N1), 62 with A(H3N2) and 128 with influenza B, according to sources from the  ministry of health and sports. 

However, no H1N1 cases were reported in Shan State (East). 

From January to October 4 this year, out of 540 influenza-like illness (ILI) patients, 127 were H1N1 patients; 23, influenza A (H3N2) patients; and 50, influenza B patients. Out of 1,301 severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) patients, 448 were A (H1N1) patients; 39, influenza A (H3N2) patients; and 78, influenza B patients. 

"Till October 4 across the country, 1,840 people had laboratory tests, 764 cases were confirmed and there were 115 deaths. The total death toll reached 115— 68 in Yangon Region, one each in Nay Pyi Taw, Kacin State, southern Shan State and Taninthayi Region, 14 in Ayeyawady Region, 11 in Bago Region, seven in Rakhine State, four each in Magway and Mandalay regions, three in Mon State and five in Sagaing Region. 

The transmission of seasonal influenza among those with chronic diseases, the elderly and infants are more severe. From January to September 9, there were 110 reported deaths. During this period, the death of patients aged between 15 and 65 is the highest, accounting for 44 per cent of the total figure. A total of 88 patients with chronic diseases died, making up 80 per cent of the total figure. The high death toll is associated with late hospitalization.
