A Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) was signed between the two countries to enhance cooperation in the electricity and energy sectors, including the supply of oil and oil products from Russia to Myanmar.
A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin met with officials from Russian-based companies on the morning of April 16, under the arrangement of the Russian Ministry of Energy, to export crude oil and oil products, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and fertilizers from the Russian Federation to Myanmar.
During the meeting, they discussed the issues of obtaining goods at affordable prices based on the friendship between the two countries, ensuring quality and road safety, and ensuring long-term logistics, and made plans for continuous interaction.
The Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister then met with the officials from the Russian Inter RAO Company to discuss the construction of a coal-fired power plant, the construction of an oil refinery, the construction of an LNG port and plant at the Dawei deep-sea port, and the conditions for upgrading the natural gas turbines and engines used in Myanmar, the conditions for regular inspection and maintenance, and the conditions for providing practical training in technologies related to turbine engines.
Subsequently, a Memorandum of Cooperation on Economic and Technical Cooperation was signed in the presence of the Union Minister between the Ministry of Electricity and Energy of Myanmar and the Investment Development Fund “RC Investments” of the Russian Federation to enhance cooperation in the electricity and energy sectors, including an agreement on long-term supply of crude oil and petroleum products to Myanmar from Russia.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Electricity and Energy of Myanmar and the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation will be signed soon to enhance cooperation, including increasing investments in the entire electricity and energy sector, and training for human resource development.
