Ten foreign nationals who had illegally entered Myanmar through border routes were repatriated to their home countries via the Myanmar–Thailand Friendship Bridge No. 2.
The group included six South Africans, three Malaysians, and one Russian who had entered the country through neighbouring nations, including Thailand. They were reportedly involved in illegal online gambling, online scams, and other crimes in areas such as Myawady, Shwe Kokko, Mehtawthalay (KK Park), and Kyauk Khat in Kayin State.
The repatriation process was carried out in accordance with legal procedures and humanitarian principles, with officials from Myanmar’s Ministry of Immigration and Population and representatives from the Russian, South African, and Malaysian embassies in Thailand present.
According to official data, from January 30 to October 7, 2025, a total of 9,439 foreigners who illegally entered Myanmar were detained, and 9,337 of them have already been repatriated through Thailand. The remaining 102 are awaiting transfer.
Myanmar authorities stated that they are cooperating with neighbouring countries and international organizations to combat illegal online gambling and financial scams in border areas, and to promptly repatriate foreigners who are victims of human trafficking or stranded due to illegal migration.
