Myanmar needs to be careful of strong wind and whirlwind made by clouds split from the cyclone Fani, which is likely to hit India.

The cyclone is intensified on the afternoon of April 30 and moved further to northeastwards. It may cross Odisha Coast, India on the night of May 3 with wind speed of 100 mph, sources said.

“It may cross the Odisha Coast, India and the certainty is about 70 per cent. However the cyclone is still in the sea and we cannot tell it for sure. We forecasted it will become a severe cyclonic storm,” said Director General Dr Kyaw Moe Oo of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

The possibility of the cyclone to hit Myanmar is very little and it may make landfall in Myanmar after crossing India.

“The storm is still in the sea and we need to be careful of strong wind and tornado made by the clouds split from the cyclone. We experienced it last year,” he said.

People living in coastal areas of Myanmar such as Rakhine, Mon and Taninthayi need to be careful of high tides, heavy rain and strong wind.

Although most areas in Myanmar will have rain due to the cyclone, it may not be heavy.

According to the announcement released by the DMH on April 30, Myanmar will have rain within next 72 hours.

Rain will be scattered to fairly widespread in Nay Pyi Taw, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Thaintharyi regions, Rakhine, Kayin and Mon states.

Occasional squalls with rough seas will be experienced Deltaic, Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi coasts. Sea will be moderate to rough elsewhere in Myanmar waters. Wave height will be about 10-12 feet in Deltaic, Gulf of Mottama, off and along Mon-Taninthayi coasts and about 6-9 feet off and along Rakhine coasts, it said.
