There have been over 150,000 internally displaced people in Myanmar due to fighting in several regions such as Kayah State, Kayin State, Bago Region and Mon State, the United Nations reported.

The IDP list was issued by UN OCHA Myanmar on June 2 with the data available till May 31.

Kayah State alone has 85,000 to 100,000 displaced people who are taking refuge in Demawso, Pruhso and Loikaw townships as well as Hsihseng and Pekon in Shan State.

The UN OCHA Myanmar report also says that Kayin State has 47,300 people displaced by fighting between the Myanmar army and Karen National Liberation Army and due to the security situation. Moreover, there are 3,900 displaced people in Mon State and eastern Bago Region as well as 51,200 in the southeastern part of the country.

Due to those clashes, the humanitarian aid situation is worsening with the displaced people in urgent need of food, shelter, medicine, drinking water and sanitary system, the report says.

Security situation, road blocks, land mines and unclear application for permission have caused difficulties with reaching aid to the people who need it. Local partner organizations also face difficulty fulfilling the increasing needs while more funds are required.

This data does not include the list of displaced people in Kachin State and Sagaing Region which are seeing fresh fighting.

According to a UN statement released on May 26, Chin State has also over 9,000 displaced people taking shelter in churches and their relatives near Mindat town.

US$10 million in humanitarian aid to Myanmar was provided on May 13. An additional US$0.35 million was provided for response measures in Chin State, the statement said.
