Myanmar imported about US$20 worth of products to China daily previously before the outbreak of covid-19 and only about 0.5 million worth of products can be exported to China now, said Aung Htoo, Deputy Minister for Commerce.

Although Myanmar cannot export its products to China now, they have to find markets for them locally and internationally, he said.

“We created places to sell fruits such as watermelons and muskmelons here. We cannot find new markets in other countries in a short time. We are monitoring the situation especially for products which can easily be decayed,” he said.

Although respective consuls are trying to find markets in other countries, demands are low, he said.

“We are monitoring the situation of covid-19. If the covid-19 is in peak period, it may decrease. We don’t know how long it will take. In the meantime, we are searching for new markets,” he said.

At the present, Myanmar is exporting its products to Thailand regularly and he heard that China will reopen its border trade centers on February 27, he added.
