Thailand has announced the suspension of bank account opening for those arriving in the country on tourist visas, but the Myanmar embassy in Bangkok announced on March 13 that arrangements will be made for their bank account opening with an embassy endorsement if they can show firm evidence.
Bangkok Bank announced the suspension announcement on March 8.
According to the Myanmar embassy, firm evidence means those working with business visas, those doing business, those studying at government or private schools, those receiving hospital treatment and those who can show their certain possessions (trade deal must be shown) in Thailand.
Moreover, the embassy says, the procedure is also applicable to investors, members of organizations (diplomat visas, embassy staff and UN staff), those with retirement visas, those holding Thailand Elite/Thailand Privilege documents (embassy endorsement is not required), members of religious organizations, foreigners belonging to Thai household lists (embassy endorsement is not required) and legitimate migrant workers (embassy endorsement is not required).
