Myanmar has deported 176 Filipino nationals, 24 Malaysians, four Nepalese, and two Cambodians who had illegally entered the country.
These foreign nationals used border routes through neighboring countries, including Thailand, to enter Myanmar unlawfully. They were found engaging in illegal activities such as online gambling and fraud in Myawady Township, Kayin State.
After investigation, they were officially deported on March 25 via the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No. 2, following legal protocols and humanitarian considerations.
To ensure a smooth repatriation process, Kayin State's Minister for Security and Border Affairs, Colonel Min Thu Kyaw, coordinated with relevant authorities to verify necessary documentation and information.
The deportation ceremony was attended by officials from Myanmar, representatives from the respective embassies, and immigration authorities from Thailand. Official documents were also handed over as part of the repatriation process.
Additionally, on the same day, authorities detained 238 more foreign nationals who had illegally entered Myanmar through Myawaddy. From January 30 to March 25, a total of 8,670 illegal foreign entrants were apprehended, with 5,406 of them already deported via Thailand. The remaining 3,264 are prepared for deportation, with Myanmar ensuring their proper detention and care.
The Myanmar government continues to investigate and crack down on illegal online scams and fraudulent activities, particularly in border areas. Efforts are being made in collaboration with neighboring countries and international organizations to combat online gambling and financial fraud operations.
