A total of 369 Chinese nationals and 23 South African nationals involved in online frauds and criminal activities were deported via the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge on March 26.
In order to facilitate the smooth return of these foreign nationals to their respective countries, U Kyaw Myint, the Staff Officer and Director of the Ministry of Immigration and Population for Kayin State and officials instructed the relevant departments to ensure that the necessary statistics and information were complete and accurate. At the deportation ceremony, the State Staff Officer and Director and officials, Ambassador Mr Darkey Africa and officials from the South African Embassy in Thailand, Mr Liu Ning Ning, Deputy Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China, and officials, officials from the Immigration Department of Tak Province, Thailand attended and Myanmar officials systematically handed over the deportation documents to the relevant country officials.
A total of 8,670 foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally from January 30 to March 26, 2025, were identified and detained, of which 5,798 were systematically transferred to relevant countries through Thailand in accordance with legal procedures, and the remaining 2,872 foreign nationals are ready to be transferred to relevant countries and are being well-maintained.
The information team of the State Administration Council stated that the government is thoroughly investigating and identifying all those involved in online scams and online gambling, and is continuously actively investigating and taking action with neighboring countries, including international organizations, especially the trilateral cooperation between Myanmar, China, and Thailand.
