Myanmar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it is deeply concerned by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan and says the visit ‘causes instability’ in the region.

The statement says, “Myanmar is deeply concerned by the visit of Ms. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America to Taiwan (Chinese-Taipei) which is causing escalation of tensions on the Taiwan Straits. Myanmar opposes any provocative actions causing instabilities in the region and attempts that aim to interfere in the internal affairs of other states.

Therefore, Myanmar calls all concerned parties to deescalate the tensions through constructive dialogue and peaceful negotiation for peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits.

Myanmar fully supports the ‘One China Policy’ and reaffirms that Taiwan is an integral part of the People's Republic of China.”
