Myanmar Consul General visits Myanmar prisoners in Chiang Mai to disucss with Thai officials about humanitarian issues for the prisoners

Myanmar Consul General U Min Kyaw Lin visited Myanmar female prisoners in the Women Correctional Institute in Chiang Mai, Thailand on December 7, sources said.

During his visit, he met with Mrs. Sununta Kongpakpian, Director of the Thai side and issues such as access to appropriate health care, access to communication with parents and relatives in Myanmar, including access to consular affairs, access to humanitarian aid, social security and welfare for Myanmar prisoners in detention centers, were discussed.

After that, the Myanmar Consul General met with 40 Myanmar female prisoners and 30 Thai female prisoners and gave emotional words of encouragement.

Then, in cooperation with the Myanmar Consul General and the charity association of the Myanmar community in Chiang Mai, the donation of personal items and ready-to-eat food, lunch boxes and equipment for mothers and children who gave birth while incarcerated, were provided. He encouraged them by buying of handicrafts made and sold by the inmates of the detention center, according to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
