In celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and China, a joint media dialogue was held this morning (June 1) at the PARKROYAL Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, under the theme “Together Toward the Future.”

Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information, U Ye Tint, and Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, Ms. Cao Jing, delivered opening speeches at the event.

“This 75th anniversary is a significant milestone for both countries. We have always shared a close and special bond—geographically, historically, and culturally. Throughout the generations, Myanmar and China have lived together as good neighbors, building a deep, long-lasting friendship. In the media sector as well, we’ve enjoyed extensive cooperation,” said Deputy Minister U Ye Tint.

He emphasized that the two nations have achieved expanding strategic partnerships and tangible success in multiple sectors. He also highlighted that today's media dialogue is a key event among many being held to commemorate the diplomatic milestone.

Referring to the recent Mandalay earthquake, he noted, “As we saw in the video, Chinese rescue teams arrived within 18 hours—before a full day had passed—and carried out search and rescue operations. Support continues to this day. Through our media’s coverage of such events, I believe our nations' mutual understanding and goodwill will continue to grow.”

The Deputy Minister added that this dialogue allows both countries’ media professionals to exchange knowledge and foster future cooperation under the shared goal of advancing together.

Chinese Ambassador Ms. Cao Jing reflected on the enduring relationship between the two countries, which she said is rooted in centuries of cultural exchange and shared resistance against colonialism and expansionism. “China and Myanmar have stood side by side, proposing key principles for peaceful coexistence and engaging in long-term mutual support,” she said.

She stressed the Chinese Embassy’s commitment to media collaboration, noting that China-Myanmar media dialogues are held quarterly. The Embassy regularly organizes study tours and training programs for Myanmar journalists to experience China firsthand. She expressed a desire to enhance future exchanges so Myanmar’s media and public can better understand the values and culture of the Chinese people.

“This 75-year history is just a chapter in the long story of China-Myanmar friendship. In the future, we expect even closer cooperation and people-to-people ties. Journalists will play an increasingly important role in fostering that future,” Ms. Cao Jing added.

The forum featured panel discussions on topics such as “Media Cooperation During Emergencies as the Essence of Shared Futures,” “Post-Earthquake Humanitarian and Development Reporting,” and “Seizing the 75th Anniversary as a New Opportunity for Modern China-Myanmar Diplomatic and Media Engagement.”
