The Mon Unity Party (MUP) has no plan to reply to the open letter sent by the victorious National League for Democracy but welcomed and recognized it, said MUP joint secretary (1) Naing La Yi Tama.

“Reviewing the letter the NLD has sent to us, they are not seeking our opinion or offering something. As it is just a letter of notice for the political parties, I think we don’t need to make a reply. But we welcome and recognize their letter,” Naing La Yi Tama said.

He said the CEC meeting of the MUP held from November 22 and 23 approved the NLD’s attitude in the letter and the review and assessment of the election results.

The NLD sent a letter to 48 ethnic parties on November 12. The letter carries three paragraphs under the title of the union affairs to be envisioned for the future Myanmar.

The NLD says in the letter that it will pay attention to the ethnic minorities in the future hoping they will actively participate in the effort to build a democratic federal union.

In the November 8 election, the ethnic parties in some states saw satisfying results while some ethnic parties could not achieve what they had expected. Under any circumstance, the NLD will continue to try for the emergence of a democratic federal union, the letter says.

In the 2020 general election held on November 8, the MPU won 12 seats of lower and upper houses of parliament as well as state parliament.
