More than 180 truck drivers and helpers test COVID positive in Bago

YANGON-------After swab tests taken from truck drivers and their helpers in Bago Region, more than 180 tested COVID-`19 positive according to Dr. Yang Naing Maung from Bago Region Department of Public Health.

“When the government issued stay at home order, transportation was inaccessible. Therefore, trucks were packed in all kinds of places before early October. As a result, flow of commodities halted temporarily. To solve this problem, the Ministry of Health and Sports tested drivers with RDT. A total of 19,547 truck drivers and helpers in Bago Region tested and among them 181 tested positive. It is less than 1 percent,” said Dr. Yang Naing Maung from Bago Region Department of Public Health.

On October 4, truck drivers and their helpers were taken swab test and 96 tested positive and majority were from Mandalay Region. On October 5, 13 from Nyaung U, 2 from Amarapura, 2 from Myittha, 3 from Meikhtila, 1 from Tharsi and Wuntwin, 4 from Taungthar, 3 from Pyigyi Tagon, 1 from Yamethin, and 2 from Tatkone, Nay Pyi Taw, altogether 31 tested COVID-19 positive.

Yangon Region Department of Public Health in cooperation with Yangon Region Government has conducted COVID-19 test using Antigen Rapid Test Kit beginning from October 4 at Myanmar Convention Center in Mindhama Road. Besides, the UMFCCI and swab team led by Dr. Kaung Htet, from the Department of Public Health, Yangon Region conducted COVID-19 test for 224 truck drivers and their helpers.
