Myawady – More than 2,000 Myanmar migrant workers have returned from Mae Sot-Myawady Road in December holiday on December 28, said Thar Gyi, Managing Director of Helping Hand General Services.

“Some workers took 15-day leaves and some got ten-day leaves. They need to go back to Thailand before their leave days are overdue. There were 2,000 workers dismissed by employers last year,” he said.

Ko Chan, from Mottama, said, “I have ten-day leave and I returned to my native town for family donation. I am missing my family and grandparents.”

Myanmar citizens went to visit Mae Sot in the holiday period as department stores, markets and shopping centers made 50 per cent off promotions.

About 400,000 Myanmar migrant workers are working in nine areas in Tak Province including Mae Sot.

Traffic jams occur daily as more people pay visits to Thailand.
