The Pyay, Myanaung and Shwepyitha oil fields are undergoing research and production enhancement using modern technologies, according to officials.
On January 6, Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin visited the Pyay oil field in Bago Region, where he observed natural gas test production and reviewed ongoing research activities aimed at increasing oil and gas output.
Officials reported that studies on Well No. 48 have successfully boosted natural gas production, which is now being supplied through the Yangon pipeline. Plans are also underway to supply gas directly to factories in the Pyay–Shwetaung area.
The minister noted that although the Pyay oil field, discovered in 1964, is a valuable site producing both oil and gas, output has nearly stopped for over a decade. He said production enhancement efforts are now being carried out through modern technology and cooperation with local entrepreneurs.
He praised staff for their efforts, encouraged further improvements using advanced international technologies, and stressed the importance of professional pride. The visit also included inspections of staff housing and support for employees’ welfare, education, and healthcare needs.
