Ministry unveils new fuel purchase app, set to launch in over 300 fuel stations in Yangon and Mandalay

A newly developed software application aims to streamline the purchase of fuel from nearby fuel stations through online platforms and plans are underway to implement this system across over 300 fuel stations in Yangon and Mandalay by March said General Mya Tun Oo, Chairman of the Central Committee on Ensuring Smooth Flow of Trade and Goods.

He highlighted the importance of overseeing the selling of fuel at fair prices and preventing the sale of illegal fuel during a coordination meeting (2/2024) held on March 5.

He reported significant seizures of illegal fuel, including 3,810 tons of diesel in Taninthary Region and 10,464 tons in Magwe Region during February 2024. A total of 14.274 tons of fuel with the total estimated value of 47.992 million kyats was seized, he said.

Measures are being taken to ensure vigilant monitoring to prevent such illicit activities. Moreover, efforts are in place to enhance real-time monitoring of fuel sales, with 8 terminals and 591 fuel stations already connected via CCTV links. Additionally, CCTV cameras have been installed at 52 toll-gates across all regions using 542 CCTVs, including Nay Pyi Taw, to monitor the movement of fuel bowsers, he added.

The software application, designed to facilitate easy online fuel purchases, is undergoing testing in gas stations in Nay Pyi Taw and will soon be operational after necessary adjustments. Following successful trials, the application will be deployed in more than 300 gas stations within the municipal boundaries of Yangon and Mandalay Regions by during this month.

The meeting, attended by committee members and special guests, emphasized the importance of these initiatives in ensuring the efficiency and transparency of the fuel distribution process.
