Ministry to release winner for Yangon Elevated Expressway Project next year

Construction Ministry will release one company qualified for the development of Yangon Elevated Expressway Project-Phase-1, in June next year, Kyi Zaw Myint, Deputy Director-General of Construction Ministry told the Daily Eleven.

A total of 12 applications were received for the project which will be jointly implemented by the Yangon Region Government and the Construction Ministry under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) system.

Recently, the ministry released the list of 10 short-listed companies from France, China, Korea, Japan, Thailand and Myanmar. Most of short-listed companies are from China.

The ministry has invited the short-listed companies to submit request for proposal and will release the concession agreement.

“The next step is to choose the project proposals in May and announce the tender winner in June,” he added.

This is the government’s priority project intended to reduce worsening traffic jam and help develop the country’s economic and social sectors through better transportation.

Plans are under way to develop Yangon outer ring road, jetties, dry-port based new towns and ensure the emergence of an economic corridor for the country, according to the Construction Ministry.

The first meeting of the leading committee for the development of Yangon Elevated Expressway project and Yangon outer ring road project was held at the construction Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on October 17.

Yangon Elevated Expressway project will connect Yangon downtown, jetty, Yangon International Airport, Mingaladon Industrial Zone and Yangon-Mandalay highway.
