Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation will make necessary coordination on a plan to grow crops that require less water in the summer and other crop growing season, based on water inflows and storage in the dams at the end of the rainy season.

During this rainy season, the dams built by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation for the supply of irrigation water, have received low inflow of water. Water inflows into the multi-purpose dams like Thaphanseik, Kintar, Seidawgyi and Myogyi are relatively low this year. These dams supply water for irrigation and drinking as well as carrying out power production.

Staff from Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department are cooperating with local authorities and farmers in order that the dams which distribute water for monsoon paddy growing in the non-rainfed areas to minimize waste in the supply of water.

The ministry will prioritize the supply of drinking water based on the water storage left after the supply of irrigation water for monsoon paddy. After that, the ministry will decide the proposed acres for the supply of water to summer paddy and other crops.
