Mine attack occurs at railroad section between Peinzalok and Tawwi railway stations

Railroad section between Peinzalok and Tawwi stations on Yangon-Mandalay railroad were mined and destroyed on the morning of September 5, according to information released by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

While the No.6 Mandalay-Yangon express passenger train had passed across Peinzalok station the engine driver noticed that the rail line on bridge number (BR-137) and the rail lines near it had been mined so that the rails had been disjointed and destroyed. As a result, that section of the track had to be temporarily closed from 4:10 am.

Upon inspecting the place of the incidence it was noticed that about 80 feet of the rail section had been disjointed and the rails twisted, and 14 concrete sleepers had been damaged. About 3 feet of the 10-foot bridge base was also damaged. The damage was set right by Myanma Railways so that it was reopened again about 11:15 am.

According to information released by the ministry, there had been 125 mine attacks on railway lines and station areas, 45 mine attacks on bridges and 12 arson attacks on railway stations and staff quarters in the entire railway sector since the month of February 2021.
