MYITKYINA------An armed group yesterday attacked a militia outpost in Nantmoon Township, Indawgyi Region, Kachin State, injuring two militia members.

“The attack started in Nantmoon village on Sunday midnight. It took nearly one hour. We heard heavy weapons. Two militia members received minor injuries. The news said that it was the Kachin Independence Army-KIA. There was no police presence in the town for a long time,” said one of the locals.

There are over 1,500 houses in Nantmoon village. The clashes between KIA and militia members took place in the Indawgyi region since the beginning of 2013.

The locals said that the attack was carried out by the KIA. Although EMG tried to ask the KIA’s information center about the attack, no one replied.

After there had been political changes in Kachin State, fighting took place in some regions in Kachin State since the beginning of March 11th.

Currently, serious fighting is taking place in Moemauk Township, Kachin State, causing thousands of villagers to flee.
