The Court Martial has sentenced former Lieutenant General Moe Myint Tun and former Brigadier General Yan Naung Soe to transportation, the State Administration Council (SAC) announced on the night of October 10.

Ex-Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun took personal benefits against the State’s foreign exchange policy, essential goods policy and other economic policies while serving the duties of a member of the SAC, the chairman of the Myanmar Investment Commission, the chairman of the Foreign Exchange Supervisory Committee and Central Committee for Ensuring Smooth Trade and Goods, and committed treason violating the road-map and objectives adopted by the State. Although the Central Bank of Myanmar sold US dollars for importing palm oil to be sold at the reference price, he intentionally failed to take action against those who raised the price of palm oil rather than the reference price set by the government.

Hence, he was indicted under relevant sections of laws and the Court Martial adjudicated his cases and sentenced him to transportation for the term of 20 years.

Likewise, ex-Brig-Gen Yan Naung Soe serving the duties of joint secretary of the Central Committee for Ensuring Smooth Trade and Goods took personal benefits against the economic policies of the State and committed treason together with ex-Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun violating the roadmap and objectives adopted by the State by going against the foreign exchange policy, essential goods policy and other economic policies.

He also exchanged foreign currencies with Myanmar kyats for businesspersons by abusing his rank and authority, accepted foreign currencies and Myanmar kyats from businesspersons, created connections between businesspersons with ex-Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun, illegally kept foreign currencies in hand, and participated in the civilian businesses with violation against the directives related to the military disciplines.
