Mawlamyine and Mudon townships in Mon State had experienced the new rainfall records in 70 years and 42 years, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology for Mon State.
The department reported that Mawlamyine Township saw a new rainfall record of 22.75 inches between July 18 and 19.
This rainfall was four times comparing the previous day. The rainfall recorded between July 17 and 18 was 5.39 inches.
In July of 2021, the Mawlamyaine Township had recorded rainfall with 11.85 inches.
Similarly, the department reported that the noteworthy amounts of rainfall recorded were 14.10 inches in Mudon Townhship, 10.83 inches in Kyaikmayaw Township, 7.27 inches in Paung Township, 4.96 inches in Chaungsone Township, 4.41 inches in Ye Township, 3.94 inches in Kyaikkhame Township and 2.27 inches in Thaton Township respectively.
The noteworthy amount of rainfall recorded was 14.10 inches in Mudon Township in 42 years and the old record of rainfall was 10.75 inches in July of 1991.
Currently, the rains continued to pour down in Mawlamyine Township until yesterday afternoon so also the flood occurred in the downtown wards of Mawlamyine Township.
Myanmar Fire Services Department together with rescue teams from Mawlamyine Township is now carrying out rescue activities in the flooded areas.
A person from Thiri Myaing Ward said that flood occurred in Thiri Myaing Ward. If rain continue to pour down, water level can increase. Now, the rescue teams distribute the rice and meals for the victims. No flood relief camps were opened in Mawlamyaine Township.
The department announced that rain or thundershowers will be scattered in the whole state within next 24 hours.
