Man killed after attacking inspection team in Mandalay

A man was fatally shot after attacking an inspection team with a sword in Mandalay when he refused to stop for questioning. The incident took place at around 5:30 PM on January 16 in Pyigyitagun Township’s (F) Ward.

The inspection team was conducting routine checks between 125th Street, 59th Street, and 60th Street when they flagged down a motorcycle carrying two unidentified men. Instead of stopping, the men abandoned their motorcycle and attempted to flee. The man riding on the back seat then turned and attacked the officers with a sword.

In response to the attack, one of the police officers fired a warning shot, which struck the assailant in the stomach, killing him. The other man escaped, and the identity of the deceased remains unknown. Authorities are investigating the incident further.
