Low pressure area formed over north of the Bay of Bengal may cause heavy rain and strong wind in seven regions and states including Yangon Region, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

“The low pressure area may intensify and is expected to reach in the stage between a low pressure area and a depression. It may form into a depression if it stays in the sea for a long time. It is moving from land to the sea. According to our model outputs, it will not stay in the sea for long. It may enter India on the night of August 6 or on the morning of August 7. We still have to monitor it,” said Dr Kyaw Moe Oo, Director General of the DMH.

According to the observations made by the DMH on August 5, the low pressure area has formed over the north of Bay of Bengal. It is forecast to intensify during next 48 hours.

Rain or thundershowers will be widespread in Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Rakhine, Kayin and Mon states with regionally and isolated heavy falls and strong winds, according to the announcement.

“Middle areas of Myanmar have a little rain because monsoon wind is strong. If the monsoon is strong, there will be less rain in middle areas of Myanmar. The tropical storm over Laos is downgraded. It is located over delta area and monsoon wind may strong a little if the remains of the tropical storm and low pressure area meet,” he said.
