Thein Hlaing Tun, lawyer for Dr Myo Aung, was arrested for a charge under section 505 (a) of the penal code as he came out of the compound of Nay Pyi Taw Council office in Zabuthirit Township, Nay Pyi Taw, after the court proceedings for the President, the State Counsellor and Nay Pyi Taw Council chair Dr Myo Aung on May 24, said advocate Min Min Soe.

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi appeared in an exclusive court in the compound of Nay Pyi Taw Council office in Zabuthirit Township, Nay Pyi Taw, on May 24 on two charges under section 25 of the natural disaster management law and other charges under section 8 of the export/import law, section 67 of the telecommunications law and section 505 (b) of the penal code. Together with her, President Win Myint charged under section 25 of the natural disaster management law and section 505 (b) of the penal code and Nay Pyi Taw Council chair Dr Myo Aung charged under section 505 (b) of the penal code also appeared in court.

“When we returned after the court hearing, we had to use the gate of the Nay Pyi Taw Council office, which is not the entrance. It is the exit gate. When we got out of the gate, U Thein Hlaing Tun, lawyer for Dr Myo Aung, was arrested for the case in which he is charged under section 505 (a) of the penal code. Maybe he was charged in Dagon Seikkan Township of Yangon. Out of the six lawyers, Thein Hlaing Tun was arrested,” lawyer Min Min Soe said.

Another lawyer Khin Maung Zaw said his arrest did not directly concern the charges against the President, the State Counsellor and the Nay Pyi Taw Council chair.

“There were cases like this directly or indirectly. Now, we will miss one lawyer for these cases. It does not directly concern our cases. His case was in Dagon Seikkan Township, far away from here. It is 505 (a) of the penal code. This was said by them (police). He gave us his telephone number for informing his home about his arrest,” said lawyer Khin Maung Zaw.
