Lagunpyin water distribution project being carried out by the JICA’s loan is 78 percent completed and to pay back the loan, Yangon City Development Committee has urged the public to give water charges fully on December 12.

In the statement, it said that the project is nearly 80 percent completed and it will complete in March 2020. The project is carried out by the JICA’s loan and YCDC has to settle the loan received from the public for water charges and the cash from selling 10 million gallons of water to Thilawa special Industrial Zone. Therefore, it urges the public to fully pay the water charges due to YCDC.

Lagunpyin water distribution project will distribute 40 million gallons of water per day townships, 13 million gallons per day to Dagon Myothit east and north, 14 million gallons of water per day to Dagon Myothit south and Seikkan townships from Zone 8, and 3 million gallons of water per day to Theketa and Dawbon Townships from Zone-2 and 10 million gallons of water per day to Thilawa special Industrial Zone.

Service reservoir and pumping stations will be built for each water distribution zone and supervisory control and data acquisition system will be used for equal distribution of water from the pipeline network of district meter area (DMA). The project was launched in 2013 by YCDC and JICA. Japan has borrowed 23.683 Japanese Yen to Myanmar for this project with 0.01 interest rate and the period to pay back the loan is 40 years.
