Kyaukpyu Gas-fired Combined Cycle Power Station project that can generate 1,000 million KW hours of power per year came into service on October 11 at the power station in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State according to Ministry of Information.
The 135-MW Kyaukpyu Gas-fired Combined Cycle Power Station project that can generate 1,000 million KW hours of power per year by using 22 million cubic feet of natural gas per day to meet the country's power need was implemented. It recycles the waste heat and uses seawater instead of underground water like natural environmental conservation techniques said deputy minister for Electric Power Dr. Aung Zeya.
The GIS substation is installed at the plant and so the power system will be stable and reliable. The power will be distributed via the 230-MW Kyaukpyu sub-power station to houses, businesses, industries and power systems in Rakhine State, he added.
Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Chen Hai said the China-Myanmar economy and trade cooperation receives the proper compatibility and it supports the Belt and Road Initiative and building the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor. China also pledged to expand the cooperation work in Myanmar's basic infrastructure such as agriculture, manufacturing and financial sectors to have better lives for Myanmar people.
Electricity is the basic of socio-economic lives of people. China is actively participating in solving the electricity need of Myanmar. Chinese companies are participating in construction projects of Ye Ywa and Paung Laung Hydropower project, Thaton and Thaketa LNG fired power plant, Minbu solar power plant and Rakhine Thahtay Hydro power plant.
At present, Tar Paing-1 Hydro power plant provides electricity to Myanmar, and linking electricity through China-Myanmar border area. More than 90 percent of machines installed at the Kyaukpyu Gas-fired Combined Cycle Power Station are manufactured in China, said Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar.
Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister Dr Aung Zeya, Rakhine State Natural Resources Minister U Than Tun, Chinese Ambassador Mr Chen Hai, officials of Power China Resources Co Ltd and Kyauk Phyu Electric Power Co Ltd. They then cut the ribbon to launch the power plant and took commemorative photos.
