Thanks to the creation of more new tourist destinations, Myanmar earned over Ks500 million from arrivals of 3,174 foreign tourists in 401 boat trips in 2019, according to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

Particularly, foreign tourists make boats trips around the islands off the town of Kawthoung in Taninthayi Region.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, tourists from Australia, Italy, Spain, Germany, Russia and Switzerland holding ordinary passports have been allowed visa on arrival at the three airports in Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw since October 1 last year.

Visa on arrival for tourists from those countries is now on a one-year trial basis, and visas are available only at these three airports. A tourist needs to pay US$50 for a 30-day visa. Visa on arrival is meant for only tourist visas. The visa extension is not permitted and tourists will not have access to restricted areas of the country.

On October 1, 2018 also, free visa was allowed for Japanese and South Korean tourists and visa on arrival for Chinese tourists including those from Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

South Korean and Japanese tourists can enter Myanmar through the three international airports as well as border gates.

Myanmar has allowed e-visa applications for over 100 countries and visa on arrival for 54  countries.
