Korean Climate Change Center presents vehicles,equipments for environmentally friendly stoves

YANGON- Korean Climate Change Center (CCC) yesterday presented the vehicles and equipments aiming to implement the efficient stoves distribution project in Myanmar, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.

The project aims to reduce firewood use, decrease the risk of fires while protecting the environment, protect deforestation and reduce the carbon dioxide emission.

Moreover, the project also create job opportunities for locals and brings fruitful results to the regional development.

Korean CCC and Agriculture Ministry agreed to save one dollar at the account of Agriculture Department while distributing one efficient cook stove as a rural development fund. Therefore, the fund will be USD 4.32 million within five years.

The project is being implemented in six States and Regions across the country aiming to reduce the use of firewood in supporting environmental conservation while extending education on this issue to the rural people.

The project spans six years since the beginning of 2018 to 2023 and costs US$ 1.2 million a year or a total of US$ 7.2 million.

The distribution of stove project will begin with villages in Myingyan and Yamethin Townships in Mandalay Region, Pakokku and Magway Townships in Magway Region and Sagaing and Monywa Townships in Sagaing Region. Totaling 216,000 households will be receiving the fuel-efficient stoves.

The stoves are being manufactured using South Korean Technology in Kyauk Myaung Township in Sagaing Region. The estimated cost of one stove is between US$ 4 and US$5.

Union Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Thu, Deputy Chief of Mission Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in Myanmar Jung Yung Soo, Counsellor Han Sung Soo and officials from CCC attended the ceremony to present vehicles and equipments.
