Twenty health care providers from Kayah left for Yangon from Loikaw on September 15 to give assistance to COVID-19 centers in Yangon as volunteers.

“Now that COVID-19 patients are increasing in Yangon and there are many patients in Phaunggyi hospital. Everyone is afraid of that virus. But, these volunteers will go willingly to help other health care workers in Yangon,” said Dr. Htay Lwin from Kayah State Department of Public Health.

A matron will lead the volunteer group in which 7 senior staff and 12 junior nurses include. They will be grouped in two and assigned in Phaunggyi and Dagaon Seikkan centers in Yangon.

“We had a discussion yesterday. If something happens, we will discuss whatever happens and solve problems together. As we knew them at the training, there is no big issue. I have said to them that it will be one month or two or maybe we can go back within two weeks. If that happens, we will be very happy,” said nurse leader Daw Mary.

Till now, Kayah State is clear from COVID-19 and it is the only State in Myanmar free from COVID-19. The reason may be less populated and involvement of people in preventing COVID-19 according to Dr. Htay Lwin.
