Shooting occurred near a car parking at Kinpun base camp in Kyaikhtiyo, Kyaikto Towsnhip at around 12:00 pm on October 12 killing three pilgrims and injuring more than ten pilgrims, according to the initial reports.
"It is known that a 40-mm grenade hit the east of the stores which sell candied fruits near the entrance to the mountain. At that time, it was the time when the vehicles carrying pilgrims came down from the mountain. We learnt that three pilgrims died and more than 10 people were injured. Some have seriously injured," said a local.
According to locals, the injured pilgrims were sent to the Kyaikto hospital by charity emergency social assistance and relief associations, and the Kyaikhtiyo mountain road was temporarily closed.
According to the locals, the current season is the time when a large number of pilgrims from all over the country come to visit the Pagoda.
