The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon will organize Indonesia Expo 2026 at Novotel Yangon Max Hotel on 30 and 31 October, bringing together 39 Indonesian companies, educational institutions and associations, along with 19 Myanmar companies participating under the “Friends of Indonesia” initiative.
The exhibition aims to showcase Indonesian products, promote trade and investment, and strengthen economic ties between Indonesia and Myanmar. It will provide a platform for businesses from both countries to exchange information, establish business networks and explore potential trade and investment opportunities.
Participating Indonesian sectors will include aviation, banking, education, traditional batik and textiles, energy, fertilizers, consumer goods, medical equipment and pharmaceuticals. The exhibition will introduce Indonesian products, services and business capabilities to the Myanmar market while creating opportunities for direct engagement between business representatives from the two countries.
The 2026 edition will be the second Indonesia Expo organized by the embassy. The inaugural exhibition was held at Melia Hotel in June 2024 and received considerable support from businesspeople, government organisations and diplomats.
“We are trying to improve and expand our promotional activities in 2026. Therefore, Indonesia Expo 2026 will be held at Novotel Hotel from 30 to 31 October, with 39 Indonesian companies participating directly,” said Arvinanto Soeriaatmadja, the Indonesian Embassy’s Minister Counsellor for Economic Affairs.
He explained that the “Friends of Indonesia” initiative was introduced to involve Myanmar companies that maintain business partnerships with Indonesian counterparts or have good relations with Indonesian government organizations and chambers.
Through the exhibition, the embassy expects to promote opportunities in trade, investment, education and tourism between the two countries.
“Beyond business discussions alone, the expo will also help promote trade, investment, education, tourism and people-to-people connections,” he said.
Through product showcases, trade promotion activities and business networking, Indonesia Expo 2026 seeks to raise awareness of Indonesian products and business opportunities in Myanmar. It will also serve as a specialized promotional platform connecting Indonesian companies with potential Myanmar business partners, supporting future trade and economic cooperation.
The exhibition is intended for businesspeople, business communities, media organizations from both countries and the general public. Visitors will have opportunities to learn more about Indonesia’s diverse industries and products, while participating organizations can promote their products and services and explore potential partnerships.
Education will be another major focus of the event, with seven Indonesian universities participating. According to Harlianto Tarmizi, Minister Counsellor at the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon, Indonesia offers scholarship programmes for Myanmar students annually, and approximately 150 Myanmar students are currently studying at the participating universities, most of them receiving scholarships.
English is the principal language of instruction at these institutions. Participating universities include Gadjah Mada University and State University of Malang, which has provided scholarships for postgraduate studies at the University of Yangon.
State University of Malang is also discussing cooperation with Myanmar’s Ministry of Education and opportunities to collaborate with teachers and educators.
On 31 October, Universitas Widyatama and the University of Foreign Languages (UFL) in Yangon are scheduled to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Following the signing, an Indonesia Corner will be established at UFL to introduce Indonesian language and culture.
The embassy and UFL have also been jointly offering free Indonesian-language courses under the BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing) programme for UFL students and staff for approximately two years.
In addition, Sampoerna University, which is expected to be renamed the American University of Indonesia, may offer another option for Myanmar students interested in pursuing education in the United States.
Harlianto said students and parents would be able to attend the exhibition on 30 and 31 October and consult university representatives directly. Applicants will also have the opportunity to sit entrance examinations for scholarships offered by some participating universities.
The exhibition is expected to broaden professional and business networks between Indonesia and Myanmar while promoting Indonesian products and higher-education opportunities. By encouraging partnerships between businesses and educational institutions, Indonesia Expo 2026 aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and higher education.
